William E. Walmsley Jr., 66, passed away on August 6, 2021 at Rhode Island Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved son of the late Edward W. Walmsley and Anne F. (Perry) Walmsley. Bill was predeceased by his sisters, Joyce A. Gunn and Carla Gundy. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many cousins. Born in South Kingstown and raised most of his life in Providence, he resided in Warwick for the last 25 years. Bill was a people person and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had an enthusiasm for learning. After graduating from Hope High School, he went on to Northeastern University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. As his career progressed Bill also pursued further education receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Johnson and Wales University and a Master of Healthcare Administration and Management from Salve Regina University. Bill always enjoyed helping others and worked for over 40 years in Social Services. For the last 4 years he was the Director of the Rhode Island Works Program at the Comprehensive Community Action Program. He was well respected by his colleagues and peers. Bill was proud of his Native American heritage and was on the council of The Nemasket Tribal Nation serving as Vice Chairman. He liked to travel, and had traveled to Canada, Paris, the Virgin Islands and throughout the United States. He was an avid fan of gospel and jazz music. Bill will be truly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers donations to his memorial fund can be made to Go Fund Me: Memorial for Bill Walmsley. A memorial service to honor Bill will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at 11:00am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be private.
