William J. Pepin, 66, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010 following a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born in Providence, a son of the late Raymond Pepin and the late Mary Rita (Fogarty) Pepin. Bill was married for the last twenty-three years to his loving wife Patricia F. Lynch-Pepin. He was pre-deceased by his wife of fourteen years, Marita R. (Sullivan) Pepin, and his brother, Raymond P. Pepin. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: William P. Pepin and his wife Alexandra (Harrington) Pepin; Michael C. Pepin and his wife Monica (Ripa) Pepin; a step-daughter Patricia F. (Stoico) Hansen and her husband Robert Hansen; and a step-son, Robert F. Stoico; and his beloved grandchildren, Thomas C. Hansen, Ember N. Stoico, Hannah L. Hansen, Winter E. Stoico, Neil J. Pepin, Michael K. Stoico, Jack C. Pepin, Cole J. Pepin, and Callie M. Pepin. He additionally leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers- and sisters-in-law, all of whom he loved very much. Bill was a graduate of Blessed Sacrament School in 1958, LaSalle Academy in 1961, Rhode Island Junior College in 1967, and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies Education from Rhode Island College in 1969. He received a Masters of Education Degree from Rhode Island College in 1971. Bill was employed as a Social Studies teacher and Guidance Counselor at Mary V. Quirk Junior High School in Warren, RI from 1969 to 1983. He was a Guidance Counselor at Warren High School from 1984 to 1990 and Director of Guidance in 1991 and 1992. He was also Director of Guidance at Narragansett High School from 1992-2000. Bill loved his students at Warren and Narragansett High Schools. He coached Girls’ Basketball at both schools and Girls’ Volleyball at Warren. While he coached four state championship teams in Girls’ Basketball and one in Girls’ Volleyball, he cherished his relationships with his players and relished in their successes on and off the court. Bill was a tremendous advocate for his students in Warren and Narragansett over the years. He considered many people from Warren and Narragansett to be part of his family. He loved Narragansett, RI and Sarasota, FL as he enjoyed the beach, the sun, the surf, and the spirit of both communities. He had many interests including sports and politics, but most of all his friends and family. He was a loyal, dedicated man who was blessed with patience and graced with humor in his life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, 864 Point Judith Road, Narragansett. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday, February 17, 2010 from 5-8 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 3507 East Frontage Road, Suite 300, Tampa, FL. 33607-1786 will gratefully receive donations in Bill’s memory.
