William M. Keenan, 91, of Bristol RI, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2022, at Newport Hospital with loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Goode) Keenan. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2022.
A native of Dover, NH, Bill attended preparatory school at St John’s Prep in Danvers, MA. Following graduation, Bill attended Providence College on a track scholarship, graduating in 1952 with a Bachelor in Business Administration. Immediately following, Bill joined the Marine Corp as an officer and attended flight school in Pensacola FL. Bill was very proud of his ten years of serving the Corp as a pilot.
Bill was a gifted athlete playing hockey as a boy. As an adult he was an accomplished skier and tennis player. Bill was in his happy place while sailing his boat, The Megan K, all around Narragansett Bay.
After his service in the Marines, Bill worked in the defense industry specializing in contracts management and negotiation. Bill worked diligently attending URI in the evenings to earn his MBA.
Bill had a love for real estate and later earned his realtor and brokers licenses. He opened his own brokerage, Keenan and Assoc. in Cumberland. Bill also served as President of the RI Board of Realtors. Additionally, Bill was elected President for a family owned real estate development company, Kenwood Corporation.
In the last several years, Bill lived at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol, RI, where he loved to share his military tales. He enjoyed excellent care as a resident.
Besides his wife, Bill is survived by their children; Colleen Farnham (Stuart, Jackson NH), Susan Morales (Midlothian VA), Carol Keenan (Edenton NC) and Lori Keenan (Jackson NH). Three grandchildren; Dr. Megan Morales, Brett Morales and Matthew Fritz. Four great grandchildren, Emily, Calista, Charlie and Val. As well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James P and Elizabeth (McManus) Keenan and his siblings James P. Keenan, Jr, Robert Keenan, Kathleen Delesky, and Laurence Keenan and his son-in-law, Kevin Morales.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI 02879. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Francis of 114 High St, South Kingstown, RI 02879. Burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
