William P. Herlihy

William P. Herlihy, of Westerly, passed away on August 16, 2012 after an illness. He was the devoted husband of Diane (Saabye) Herlihy and loving father of Beth Erin Herlihy and Megan Kristen Herlihy. Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Mary (Houlihan) Herlihy. Mr. Herlihy was a senior cost engineer for General Dynamics Electric Boat Division, Groton, CT for many years before retiring. He graduated from Merrimack College with a BS in Physics and the University of Rhode Island with a MS in Physics and a MBA. He took great pride in his Irish heritage, exploring his roots during trips to County Cork. A lifelong history buff, Mr. Herlihy enthusiastically played golf and chess, cheered on Boston sports teams, and enjoyed nature and the outdoors in all seasons. Known for his Irish wit, he was the brother of Jeremiah and John Herlihy of TX and Joseph Herlihy of MA and uncle to ten nieces and nephews. Mass and burial will be private.
