William O. Gall

William O. Gall, COL USA (R) died on Friday, October 17, 2014 in Kingston, RI at the age of 97. COL Gall entered the Army in 1939 and served for 30 years. In WWII he served with the 10th Mtn. Div. Artillery in Italy and after the war he was part of the occupation force in Japan. He was an instructor at the Army War College in Carlisle Barracks and in 1960 he was commander of the 4th Missile Command in Korea. A tour of duty as Assistant Chief of Staff in Stuttgart, Germany was with 7th Army and his final assignment was Chief of Staff, Ft. Dix, NJ in 1969. His awards include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Office of the Secretary of Defense Identification Badge. He retired from the Army in 1969 & became an Associate Dean for Mercer County Community College, Trenton, NJ. He was a graduate of Ohio State University, 1939 and received a MS from George Washington University, 1965. COL Gall is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruth M. Lefforge, his second wife, Winona Donohue and his daughter Ann Gall Durbin. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Gall Amerigian, and four grandchildren, Sarah Durbin Wicker of Raleigh, NC, Alan M. Durbin of Irvine, CA, Oliver W. Amerigian of Providence, RI, and Zoe L. Amerigian of Miami, FL. A committal service will be held at the RI Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Exeter, RI on Saturday November 29, 2014, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the 10th Mountain Division Foundation, Inc., 133 South Van Gordon St., Ste. 200, Lakewood, CO 80228.
