William B. Essex, Jr.”The Duke of Fluke" made his final voyage on Friday. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Adams) Essex for 57 years. Born in Narragansett, he was a son of the late William B. Sr., and Olive (Shaw) Essex. Mr. Essex was a commercial fisherman and captain out of Pt. Judith for 30 years, earning the name “Duke of Fluke”. He is an Army Veteran of the Korean War, enjoyed golfing and was a member of Laurel Lane Country Club. Besides his wife he is survived by four children; William B. Essex, III of Wakefield, Nelson E. Essex of Narragansett, Barby Corr of Wakefield and Thomas G. Essex of Wakefield; seven granddaughters. A funeral service will be at 11AM Tuesday in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial with military honors will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
