Obituary

William "Billy" Barbour, 67, of West Greenwich, RI, passed away at Yale/New Haven Hospital, with his loving wife, Anne, at his side on October 5, 2026. Billy was born in Warwick, RI on December 19, 1958. He grew up close to the sea where he began fishing and "digging" clams as a child. These activities shaped his deep love for the ocean and the great outdoors. Billy's passion for fishing for striped bass and giant tuna became his livelihood. He fished hard, yet always had fun! His fishing career was adventurous and exciting. Billy's friendships with people he met along the way were deep and meaningful. Many friends fished alongside him every chance they could get. He always gave a helping hand and advice to everyone he met whether they wanted it or not!

Billy graduated from Toll Gate High School in 1978. After graduation, he became one with nature. If he wasn't on the ocean fishing, he was in the woods hunting. He spent many years as a turkey guide in West Virginia. He also travelled with his buddies for hunts out west and the Arctic Circle. The stories told about these adventures are priceless! Billy was also the owner/ operator of his snow removal business, Detailed Services. Billy was strong and he was fierce. He overcame many obstacles in his life and one of his famous sayings was, "Don't look back, keep moving forward." Billy was brave and strong. He fought a valiant fight as he battled a catastrophic illness for the last four years.

Billy was an incredibly generous man with a huge heart. No one ever left his home without a dozen eggs, some homemade sausage, jarred mushrooms, or some chestnuts from his yard. A magnanimous host, he loved gathering family and friends around the table for delicacies from the sea, the forest and his organic garden. He was an amazing cook and loved sharing meals that he prepared in cast iron pans on his vintage black cast iron woodburning Glenwood stove, especially at the holidays.

Billy leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Anne Elizabeth (Wright) Barbour, his stepchildren Alexandra and Anthony, two grandchildren who he adored, his faithful dog Buck and many friends he considered brothers.

Funeral Services will be held at Christ the King Church in Kingston (180 Old North Rd, Kingston, RI ) at 10am on Tuesday, October 13th, followed by a reception at Artoro Joe's (140 Pt. Judith Rd Narragansett, RI.)

Food insecurity was a cause dear to Billy's heart. Donations can be made to the Rhode Island Food Bank in his name.
