William L. Ainsworth

October 25, 1945 — September 26, 2025

William (Bill, Willy) Lee Ainsworth, 79, of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his wife, Marie Ainsworth (Lass), and his family who adored him. Born to James Ainsworth and Carolyn Ainsworth (Robbins).

He was a proud Navy Veteran and loved to tell stories about being in the Navy. Bill was full of humor, quick wit, and an endless love for the Yankees. He liked to say that being born in Staten Island made him a true New Yorker, even though Rhode Island had been his home since he was just six months old. South Kingstown wasn’t just where he lived — it was where he built a lifetime of friendships, memories, and love.

Over the years, Bill gave so much of himself to others. He volunteered with South County Ambulance, for over 20 years, South Kingstown Forest Fire, age 16, served as a Richmond police officer, and spent his career at Narragansett Electric, retiring in May 2003. After retiring he was the handyman for The Mews Tavern where he worked for many years. Through it all, he was known for his kindness, loyalty, and the way he made people laugh. Especially because no matter where Bill went he managed to find someone that he knew.

Family was everything to Bill. He leaves behind his beloved wife Marie; his children, Amy and Richard Ainsworth; his step-son, Michael Redding; his step-daughters, Jennifer Enck and Suzanne Morrow (Enck); his grandchildren, Shane Ainsworth, Ailbhe Conor, Darren, and Orla Redding; Great Grandson Neo William Redding; and his siblings, Kimberly Champlin (Ainsworth) and James Ainsworth. To them, and to all who knew him, he was a steady source of love, laughter, and strength.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hope Health Hospice, whose care and compassion meant so much in his final days.

Bill will be remembered not only for what he did, but for who he was — a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence made life brighter.
