Willard G. Scheibe, 91 of Blackberry Hill Drive, Matunuck, died Sunday at South County Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marjorie E. (Peterman) Scheibe, who passed away August 23, 2000 after 53 years together. They were married June 21, 1947. Born in Providence, RI on April 23, 1918 he was the son of Max E. and Elise (Noeske) Scheibe and he attended the University of Rhode Island. Before retiring in 1972, Willard worked for the US Department of the NAVY at Quonset Point and was responsible for the Payroll Department and Satellite Military and Civilian activities. After retirement, Willard opened Wilmar Real Estate and operated the business for 20 years in and around Warwick, RI. Willard and Margie enjoyed many good friends and seeing many parts of our country. Willard and Margie lived in Sun City, Arizona for 7 years and then resided in Boynton Beach, Florida for 18 years before returning to Wakefield, RI. Willard played the accordion since he was the age of four, was an avid bee-keeper, an avid gardener and planted a vegetable garden every year, and was also an avid Red Sox fan and a sports lover, spending many Sunday afternoons watching the Red Sox and Patriots. He was a member of the Matunuck Rocket Society Association, which met regularly on Thursday’s for coffee at Belmont Fruit Market, he was a member of the Nathaniel Greene Masonic Lodge, he and his late wife Marjorie were communicants of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Charlestown, and he was an active member of many associations including the Warwick Credit Union advisory board for 25 years and the Norwood and Kent County Granges. Willard is survived by his niece Violet (Scheibe) Eklof of Warwick, RI and his nephew Herbert Cotterly of Melrose, MA and 16 great nieces and nephews. Willard will be sadly missed by his close friends Dale and Bob Atkisson and his many friends. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Thursday in the Church of the Holy Spirit, 4150 Old Post Road, Charlestown. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Visiting hours will be at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday, 5-7 PM . Memorial contributions may be made to one’s charity of choice.
