Obituary

Wilbur Stanton, 95, of South Kingstown passed away the morning of March 5, 2026, surrounded by family. He was a life long resident of South Kingstown, graduating SKHS in 1949. He was a proud member of the Narragansett Nation, served on tribal council and was a life long student of local history. A veteran, Wilbur served this country as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean War. After his service he returned home to raise his family and worked for many years at Electric Boat. He enjoyed spending his time coaching little league and had a mind for mechanics. He could often be found tinkering on motors and repairing small engines in his garage. He taught his family to care about the history of tribal people, this land and the legacy of this town.

He leaves behind his wife of over 70 years, Jean Marie (Reels) Stanton, his children Carol and husband George Stedman, Guy Stanton, W. Mark Stanton, and Toni Arnold, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, as well as a close-knit group of extended family and close family friends. All of whom were blessed to have belonged to him and benefited from his wisdom over these years. He is predeceased by his siblings, Doris Reels, Layla Jenkins and Mark Dodge Stanton, his firstborn daughter Kim Marie Hazard and granddaughter Sierra Sekator Stanton.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 14th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in New Fernwood Cemetery.
