Wayne A. Johnson, 68, Peace Dale, died on Monday, May 15 at 3:55pm, from injuries sustained in a sudden tragic fall. Wayne was born Feb. 7, 1949 in Canton, Massachusetts. Early on he was a commercial fisherman and lobsterman in Galilee, Rhode Island. He attended the University of Rhode Island and earned his Bachelor and Masters degrees there. Wayne held many roles as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He taught in the Narragansett school system for many years as a science educator and physical education teacher. In addition Wayne served awhile as Student Activities Director and coached the golf and tennis teams. Wayne was an avid tennis player, fisherman, golfer, mineral/gem collector, gardener, and general handyman. He always had a project going, and was ready to help anyone who needed it. Later on, in his retired years, he and his wife Helen enjoyed traveling the world together. This past February, Wayne and his sons took a trip to Houston to see the Patriots record breaking Super Bowl victory. Wayne is survived by his father, Andrew Johnson, 94, of Canton, Massachusetts, his wife, Helen, his three sons and their wives, Mark and Jennifer of Atlanta, Georgia, Philip and Courtney of Wakefield, Rhode Island, and Peter and Megan of Cary, North Carolina. "Papi" adored his six grandchildren, Luke, Noelle, Lydia, Abby, Hunter, and Sophie. The family is overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and support from neighbors, friends and colleagues.
