It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Quenikom Pau Muckquashim Everett, born on November 5, 1970, whose journey on this earth has now neared its conclusion. Wayne’s vibrant spirit and unwavering resilience have inspired all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud steward of his Narragansett heritage, Wayne was deeply connected to his community and the natural world. He dedicated his life to preserving the cultural traditions through his Pettaquamscutt Community Gardens along with stories of his ancestors, diving into genealogy ensuring that their wisdom and values would resonate for generations to come. Wayne’s name, “ Quenikom Pau Muckquashim,” meaning “ Standing Wolf,” embodied the strength and purpose with which he lived.
Wayne was a devoted father, brother, son, and friend. He cherished his family above all, and his presence brought warmth and laughter to every gathering. His ability to listen, empathize, and offer guidance made him a pillar of strength to all who sought his counsel.
Throughout his life, Wayne faced challenges with remarkable courage, most recently a valiant battle with Angio Sarcoma cancer. Even in the face of adversity, he exemplified grace, determination, and a steadfast faith in the Creator.
He will be remembered for his love of storytelling, his laughter that could fill a room, and his unwavering commitment to those he held dear. Wayne’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, who will continue to honor his memory by carrying forward his values and teachings.
Wayne is survived by Xavier Leigh Burrell, and Shynin’ Anockqus Thomas, both his mother and father Shirley Brown and Wayne Sampson, his two brothers Damion Everett and Suan Brown, and his two sisters Ebony Boucher and Shellise (Perry) Harry and many other young people who he thought of as his very own.
Services to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held at Avery-Storti Funeral Home on Friday, February 7th, at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Wayne’s honor to Pettaquamscutt Community Gardens.
May Wayne’s journey to the Spirit World be peaceful, and may his memory forever be a blessing to us all.
