Obituary

Walter C. Larmie, born on August 5, 1945, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Una Larmie, and is also preceded in death by his sister Wendy. He is survived by his wife of many years, Betty (Kenny) Larmie.

Walter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his children: Suzanne Steele (Mike), Patricia Larmie, Mike Larmie, and Erin Larmie (Erik Anderson). He was a proud grandfather to Josh Larmie, Kayleigh Anderson, Hannah Steele, and Jakob Steele, and his brother, Wayne Larmie (Bev).

Walter graduated from South Kingstown High School and went on to attend the University of Rhode Island, where he majored in Agriculture and Horticulture. While at URI, he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. His career reflected his lifelong passion for gardening, agriculture, and helping others. He worked for Cornell University Extension in New York and later for the University of Rhode Island Extension, where he helped start the Master Gardener Program at URI. He also worked for True Value, Sears, and Tractor Supply, serving many years as a knowledgeable and friendly resource in his community.

Walter loved to garden and was always happy to help others, whether through his work or simply by sharing conversation. He enjoyed talking with everyone he met and had a gift for making people feel welcome. One of his favorite joys was hot air ballooning with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Walter's warmth, generosity, and love for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
