Walter C. Beckmann

Walter C. Beckmann, 85, of Narragansett, died Saturday. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann Lee (McClemens) Beckmann, who recently died in October of 2013. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late Charles O. and Anna E. (Gathmann) Beckmann. Mr. Beckmann received his graduate degree in Geophysics from Columbia University. After earning his degree, he started the Alpine Geophysical Company, which he owned until he retired at the age of 42. Mr. Beckmann then bought and operated Rhode Island Marine Services, located in Snug Harbor, where he built steel boats up to 95 feet in length. He is survived by four children, Lloyd W. Beckmann of Wakefield, Glenn W. Beckmann of Peace Dale, Kenneth L. Beckmann of Westerly, and Nancy Ann Beckmann of Narragansett; nine grandchildren and one great grandson. He was the brother of the late Arthur H. Beckmann. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26th, 2014 at 2 pm in the First Baptist Church of Narragansett, 305 Kingstown Road, Narragansett, RI.
