Vivian S. Gavitt, 89, of Exeter, died Monday. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold E. Gavitt. Born in Exeter, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Gardiner) Whitford. Mrs. Gavitt was employed for the Wakefield Branch Company, the University of Rhode Island, and the Town of Exeter. She is survived by three children; Sharon L. Wilbur, Peter L. Gavitt, and Robin L. Gavitt,; a sister Evelyn Dyer; two brothers, Donald Whitford and Louis Whitford, Jr.; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Harold E. Gavitt, Jr. and David R. Gavitt. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Scallop Shell Resident Activities Fund, 981 Kingstown Road, Peace Dale, RI 02879 or Church of the Ascension, 370 Main Street, Wakefield, RI 02879.
