Vito Anthony Christiano, 87, of Snug Harbor passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. Born in New York City, NY, Vito was the son of the late James and Antoinette (Amedeo) Christiano and the beloved husband of Susan Christiano (Harding).
A proud member of the Ironworker’s Union of New York, New Jersey Local 483, Vito worked with his Ironworker brothers for many years, enjoying one as much as the next. After a successful and determined career as an Ironworker, Vito fulfilled his dream and came to Snug Harbor, as he put it, “to fish his life away”. Vito officially “dropped anchor” in Snug Harbor where he made special friendships to enrich his life, many of which revolved around his passion for fishing. His avid fishing and outdoorsmanship lead him to a feature on the popular “American Sportsman” in 1972. Many of Vito’s beloved friends and family have a fishing story about Vito, where his charming smile and laugh could be heard across the water. Vito spent many days as co-captain of the “Rachel Ann” with great friend and fisherman, Billy Mulvey. It was on the “Rachel Ann” where Vito spent his most enjoyable fishing days with family and friends.
Along with fishing, Vito proudly served in the Army National Guard for many years and Vito will always be remembered for his lifelong ties and love for Hell’s Kitchen, New York and the New York Yankees, a team that he was a lifelong fan of.
Vito is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan Christiano (Harding), adored sister Marie Pizzo, his sons James (Linda) Christiano, and George (Mary Ellen) Christiano, and his daughter Antoinette Christiano. Vito is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Nickolas, Owen, Brian, Gina, and Maria, and three great-grandchildren. Vito is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Carmine Pizzo.
