Virginia Sanborn, 100, of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 25th, 2014. She was the wife of the late Philip Sanborn. Born January 21, 1914 in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Dr. William O. and Louise (Burt) Rice. Ginny graduated from Pembroke and received her Masters degree in social work at Simmons College. She worked as a social worker at Bradley Childrens Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital for most of her life, and continued to volunteer her services at various organizations. She loved playing bridge, golf, listening to jazz, and took up oil painting in her 70s. She was the happiest spending time at her beloved cottage in Jerusalem. In addition to her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes, she will be remembered for being a caring, loving friend and mother, with a zest for life. She is survived by a daughter, Marcia L. McGovern of Wakefield. She was the sister of the late Richard Rice and William Rice.. A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
