Virginia M. Rosie

June 10, 1929 — January 22, 2022

Virginia M. (Camardo) Rosie, widow of former URI dean Douglas Rosie and the last of the four children of Nicola and Maria C. (Montagano) Camardo, passed away January 22, in the 93rd year of her life. She was predeceased by sisters Libby Camardo and Tina DiIorio and brother Tony Camardo. A 60 year resident of Narragansett, Ginny and Doug hosted many memorable gatherings for family, friends and colleagues where Ginny, who was an accomplished pianist, having graduated from Classical High School and from Boston University with a degree in music, accompanied Doug in leading joyous sing-a-longs. Sometimes these affairs were conducted under the open air tents the Rosies purchased for just such occasions. For many years, first in Providence and then in Narragansett, Ginny taught kindergarten. For a time, in the days when TV was black and white, she co-hosted a children’s half hour on Channel 10. Childless, Virginia is survived by eight nieces and nephews who will greatly miss her unfailing buoyancy and the warmth of her welcoming home. Thanksgiving there was often a three day affair of communal preparation, the feast and the leftover day. She also leaves 18 grandnieces and nephews and their many children. She was a member of the Dunes Club and the Anawan Homeowners Association and a communicant of St Thomas More Church. A memorial service for family, friends and neighbors will be held in the Spring. Notices will be forthcoming. Donations in her memory may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the ASPCA.
