Virginia M. O'Brien

Virginia M. O'Brien, 88, of Wakefield, died Tuesday. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald F. O’Brien, who she married in 1947. Born at Ft. Adams in Newport, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Helen (Browning) Conley. Mrs. O’Brien was employed as the University of Rhode Island for many years, retiring in December of 1985. She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Women’s Club, the Junior Women’s League, Daughters of Isabella,and the South County Professional Business Women’s Club. Mrs. O’Brien, along with her late husband, volunteered at South County Hospital for many years. She is survived by two sons, Patrick D. O’ Brien (Susan) of Exeter and Kevin F. O’Brien (Sharon) of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Aaron, Alison, Callie and Jenny; and two sisters, Joan Sherman of Manhattan beach, CA and Shirley Chartier of St. Petersburg, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 am Saturday in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Friday, 5-7 pm.
