Virginia L. Jones

Virginia L. Jones., 78 of Franklin, NC and Wakefield, RI, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 7, 2008. Born in Wakefield, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John Paul Jones, one of the founders of South County Hospital, and the late Carolyn M. Jones. Virginia was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and the University of Tennessee where her majors were textiles and design. Her professional life continued in those fields as an assistant professor at the University of New Hampshire and later as adjunct professor at the University of Rhode Island. In later years she founded and was Executive Director of the Macon County Council for the Arts in Franklin, NC. She was a member of the Church of the Ascension, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, the South County Center for the Arts, and the Dunes Club. She is survived by her many cousins and her long time friend and colleague Maude Bivins. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday September 13, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Ascension, 370 Main Street, Wakefield.
