Vincent A. Syriac Sales Engineer- Business Man Vincent A. Syriac, 87 of Old Post Road, Charlestown, died peacefully Sunday at South County Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Marguerite W. (Beck) Syriac. Born in Ludlow, MA, he was the son of the late William J. and Mary Ann (McClure) Syriac. He was a WW II Army Veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater while in the Angura Island Campaign. His unit was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation. His patriotism never waivered as he was a life long member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Syriac was a former sales manager of the Springfield Cast Products. He was also the general manager of the eastern division of the Kindt Collins Co. He was a commissioner of the Springfield Urban Renewal and served on the Housing Authority. Active in sports, he played industrial league basketball and baseball. In 1971, Mr. Syriac made Green Hill his permanent home. He was one of the founders of The Green Hill Beach Club. Mr. Syriac developed and was the president of the Gift Barn of Charlestown. Upon selling the Gift Barn complex, he moved to Charlestown and became an active community member. Mr. Syriac served as the vice president of the board and tourism counselor for the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce. During his service for the chamber, he managed the Seafood Festival for eighteen years, was elected person of the year in 1988, received an honorary lifetime membership tourism award from Governor Almond in 1998, and a congressional citation from Robert Weygand in 2000. Mr. Syriac was a sales rep for Newton Manufacturing until the time of his death. He leaves two daughters, Nancy A Hays and her husband Russell of South Kingstown and Cate L. Young of Charlestown, a brother George Michael Syriac of Fallon NV; four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John and William Syriac, and Mary Ellen O’Connell. The funeral will be held Friday, May 20th at 10:00 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery , Exeter.
