Dr. Vance J. Yates, 92, of Grandeville Ct., died Monday. He was the husband of the late Elisabeth (Yoder) Yates. Born in Smithville, OH, he was the son of the late Albert and Edith (Plank) Yates. Dr. Yates was chairman of the Department of Animal Pathology at the Univeristy of RI for over thirty-five years before retiring. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army during W.W. II serving in Europe. He received his DVM from Ohio State University and his PhD in Animal Pathology from University of Wisconsin. He was the father of Christopher, Jonathan and Peter Yates and Rosemary Coslit; grandfather of Heidi Perron, Peter Yates Jr., Carissa Coslit and the late Nina Coslit. The funeral will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM in Christ United Methodist Church, 2291 Kingstown Rd., Kingston. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
