Valerie Louise Jackson, 93, of Kingston, RI, passed away peacefully at home with her family on September 15, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Noel Jackson Ph.D.
Born and educated in England, she qualified in Orthopedic Nursing and Physiotherapy prior to emigrating to RI with her husband and children in 1965. Initially she worked throughout the state as a visiting pediatric PT before being recruited to start the in-house Physical Therapy department at South County Hospital.
She spent 20 plus years there, where she touched the lives of hundreds of patients of all ages and walks of life, who were seeking help with their rehabilitation. Valerie was unwavering in her commitment to seeing her patients reach their full potential for recovery. She was often reminded of her impact on the community when former patients would stop her to chat and thank her for believing in them and their ability to regain their lost strength and mobility.
She had many interests including ballroom dancing and cooking, but her main passions besides her beloved grandsons, Sam and Alex Mason, were travel and swimming. She delighted in researching and planning foreign adventures, and visited more than 50 countries. Her most memorable and significant travel experience was arranging for the family Christmas on Virgin Gorda in the Caribbean for 21 consecutive years.
An ardent swimmer all her life, having learned to swim at an early age in the frigid North Sea, she relished winter travels to warm waters, but always preferred to swim in RI waters in the summer.
Valerie leaves behind her loving son, David Jackson, who lived with her for the past 5 years, her devoted daughter, Carrie Mason of Wakefield and her grandsons, Sam and Alex and her brother, Peter Low. She had a long and impactful life and will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
Calling hours for Valerie will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM in the Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St. Wakefield, RI. Burial will be private.
