Thomas F. O’Brien, 95, of Peace Dale, passed away August 22, 2012 at the Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband and soul mate of Grace (Merola) O’Brien for sixty-two years. Tom was personnel director of the former Imperial Knife Co. in Providence for many years before moving to Peace Dale. He then purchased the home of Caroline Hazard to open the Scallop Shell Nursing Home. He was also the owner of the Wakefield Manor Rest Home. Tom was very active discovering our native woodlands as a cross country skier and member of the RI Hikers Club. He also won awards as a cross country runner. He was an avid tennis player, golfer and horseback rider and creator of lovely gardens about his home. Although he traveled to many destinations, spending time with family and friends at Galilee Beach held some of his fondest memories. Tom being a kind and gentle man was loved very much by his family and friends alike. He is survived by his son, Patrick and his wife Michelle, daughters, Cheryl Voisinet, Gail Moran and her husband John of Wakefield. He is preceded in death by his son, Terrance O’Brien and grandson Chad O’Brien. He is also survived by five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Harriet Cox, Mary Williams, Catherine Stevens, Margaret Lamb and William O’Brien. Funeral services were private.
