Thomas Lawrence Nowell, known to friends as "Tom," passed away on October 17, 2018 at the age of 67 years. He was the husband of Stephanie Hart Nowell for 21 years. Born in Boston, MA, a son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Marotta) Nowell. A native of Boston, MA, Tom attended Catholic Memorial High School and went on to earn an advanced degree in Social Work from Boston University and SFSU. As a therapist, Tom dedicated his career to helping others and his positive and genuine spirit made a significant impact upon those served. Tom loved the arts and was a talented leatherworker and stained glass artist. He appreciated all the beauty and wonder in nature and loved to swim, hike and bike all over the US. He was quick to make friends and kept them close for life. In 2014, Tom sustained a catastrophic spinal cord injury which resulted in quadriplegia. Even through the most difficult and challenging times, he demonstrated an incredible strength and resolve to continue to see the beauty in life. Besides his wife he is survived by his sister, Judy Landers and her husband Frank of AZ, his brother, Ken Nowell and his wife Kathy of MA and an extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, October 22, 2018, at 10 am in St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck School House Rd., Charlestown. RI. Burial will follow in Riverbend Cemetery, Westerly. Visiting hours Sunday, October 21, 2018, 3-6 pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
