Theresa H. Newton

Theresa H. Newton, 85, of Narragansett, died Thursday. She was the beloved wife of the late Oscar A. Newton. Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late Thomas B. and Hannah T. (Donoghue) Laffey. Mrs. Newton was an Administrative Assistant at the University of Rhode Island for 54 years, retiring in 1999. She is survived by a brother, Joseph Laffey of West Kingston; two sisters, Mary McBride of Falls Church, VA and Sister Margaret Mary Laffey, CP of Wakefield; 26 nieces and nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ambrose Laffey. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Monday 4-7 PM.
