Theodore S (Ted) Davis, Jr. (Sgt., RISP, Retired), 65, died December 15th, 2011 in Charlotte, NC with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Doherty) Davis. Born in Providence, December 17th, 1945, he was the son of the late Theodore S., Sr., and Dorothy (Roche) Davis. Ted was a lifetime police officer who started his career as a military policeman with the 561st Military Police Company at Ft. Myer, VA. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, he joined the town of Narragansett Police Department, serving for 3 years. He was then selected to join the Rhode Island State Police where he served for 22 years. While with the State Police he served on the motorcycle squad, was a member of the SWAT team and was rated an expert marksman. He was responsible for the largest drug bust in the State of RI for which he received a commendation from the department. He served in all the barracks in the state but retired as the commander of the Hope Valley Barracks. He was an avid boater and a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, serving at one time as the Harbor Master for the Town of Narragansett. He was a member of the Point Judith Yacht Club, the Stuart, FL Yacht and Country Club, Harley Owners Group "HOG", Fraternal Order of Police, the Rhode Island Troopers Association and he was a member of Christ the King Parish. He was fond of vintage cars and there was not a Corvette, Harley Davidson motorcycle or a boat that he could not build or rebuild. Besides his wife, Ted leaves a son, Kenneth J. Davis and his wife Denise; a daughter Kerryn Jane and her partner Robin Scott; two step sons Curtiss Crippen and his wife Mary, Richard P. Crippen and his wife Sonja; two brothers E. Mark Davis and his wife Leslie, Geoff Davis and his wife Karen, a sister Edwina Davis; seven grandchildren: Kyle, Brooke, Lauren, Daniel, Emma, Audrey and Olivia. He also leaves a special niece Mackenzie Davis and a dear friend Marie Flynn as well as other nieces and nephews. He was the husband of the late Judith A. (Graveline) Davis, and the brother of the late Peter Davis and Cathleen MacLaughlin. Visiting hours are Tuesday, December 27th from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Wednesday, December 28th at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Road, Kingston. Burial will be private.
