Sylvia M. DeLuca (Boragine), 97, of Peace Dale, died Easter Sunday evening at the Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a short illness. She was the wife of the late James H. DeLuca, Sr. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Oreste and Felicia (Yemma) Boragine. Mrs. DeLuca worked for many years in the Peace Dale mills-MT Stevens, Howard Weaving, Pallisades- and at the University of Rhode Island before retiring after 20 years at Bostich. Her passions were her family, her vegetable garden, her blueberry patch, and cooking. She is survived by sons, James H. DeLuca, Jr. (Jeannette) and Dennis D. DeLuca (Anna), both of Wakefield, and Geoffrey J. DeLuca of North Kingstown; sister Rosina LaVasseur of Pioneer, CA; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Branden DeLuca and sister of the late Freda Sweet, Eva Angrisani, and Joseph “Pippy” Boragine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Wakefield. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours are at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Wednesday, 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield, RI 02879.
