Susan J. Marchand, 66, of Washington St., died unexpectedly Friday. She was the beloved wife of Alan R. Marchand. Susan was born and raised in Pawtucket, RI, a daughter of H. Estelle (Gilheeney) Nixon and the late Thomas Nixon. She was a graduate of Tolman High School, where she met her future husband Al. After high school she attended RI College where she achieved a BS in Elementary Education. Her first teaching position was with the East Providence School System. She then taught in the Attleboro School System and later at St. Leo The Great in Pawtucket. Susan and Al married in 1966 and soon moved to South Attleboro, MA, where she raised her family and lived there for the next twenty five years. Susan later worked as manager at UP With Learning in Garden City for fifteen years before retiring. They called Matunuck home for the last sixteen years. She was a member of Matunuck Community Association. Besides her husband and mother she leaves her loving sons, Gregory Marchand and his wife Christina of North Attleboro, MA and Derek Marchand and his wife Olivia of Columbus, GA; a sister Nancy Moreau and her husband John of South Attleboro, MA; cherished grandchildren, Sydney and Jackson Marchand and Jackson and Levi Bolton. Susan was a very special Auntie to her many nieces and nephews, Karen, Amy, Gregory, Katie, Lindsay, Alyssa, Ryan, Cameron and Caroline. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM from the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Romuald Chapel, Atlantic Ave, Matunuck. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours Monday 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jonnycake Center, 1231 Kingstown Rd., Wakefield, RI 02879.
