Steven “Tucker” Thomas died at the age of 65 on Feb 1st, 2013. Born on April 14, 1947, he was the beloved son of the late James and Gladys (Sekator) Thomas; brother of the late James “Herkie” Thomas, Jr. and Albert “Allie” Thomas. Stevie leaves behind three nephew’s, Michael, Steven and Allen, and a niece Michelle, as well his Aunts’, Emeline Thomas, Margaret Thomas and Mildred Johnson. After high school, he served in the United States Army for six years and then continued on in the reserves. Steven was a member of the Narragansett Indian Tribe and the Bricklayer’s Union. He was considered lucky and became the first Kidney Transplant Receiver for South County in 1989. He was a lifelong resident of Wakefield and he participated on various sports teams during his life. You could always find Stevie at Old Mountain Lanes bowling or at Old Mountain Field, watching or playing ball. In 1965 he helped the basketball team at South Kingstown High School win the Championship title. He enjoyed fishing and was a avid bowler, traveling to and winning many tournaments over the years. However, he found his true passion in coaching the men and women’s softball teams. He was able to take his teams to national championship levels from Florida to Oregon. His connection to his players was as close as family. His last game as a coach was at the USSSA World Championship Tournament held in Disney in 2005. He enjoyed his time spent with the South Kingstown Recreation and the ASA league. Tucker with love, ”the grumpy old man” will be missed by his family and friends…Rest in Peace! Visiting hours will be Friday from 11- 12 Noon at the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a funeral service at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Wakefield.
