IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven Robert
Hartley
July 30, 1946 – February 13, 2026
Steven R. Hartley, 79, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the devoted husband of Linda (Souther) Hartley. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John R. Hartley and Priscilla (Bens) Hartley.
Steve was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Tina Hartley and her partner, Scott Giambanco, and a cherished grandfather to Myles and Mya Giambanco. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Dana Hartley. In addition to his stepson, Lance Brodnax, he is survived by two siblings, Paul Hartley, and Christine Padula; and predeceased by one sibling J. David Hartley.
If ever there was a modern Renaissance man, it was Steve. Affectionately known as "Renaissance Man Steve," he embraced life with curiosity, talent, and passion. A gifted lifelong sailor, he spent countless treasured days on Narragansett Bay, enjoying overnights in Newport, coastal Maine, Martha's Vineyard, St. Thomas, and beyond. From his days on the SAIL team at University of Rhode Island to becoming an experienced captain of many classic sailboats--especially his beloved boat Irie--sailing was one of his great joys.
Steve also had a deep love for food and cooking. He delighted in preparing meals for family and friends, gathering everyone around the table, and sharing good conversation, laughter, and stories. Whether experimenting with new recipes or perfecting old favorites, he poured the same creativity and passion into the kitchen that he brought to every part of his life.
An accomplished artist and master furniture craftsman, Steve's creativity and skilled hands brought beauty and function into the lives of many.
Above all, Steve will be remembered for his engaging personality, ready smile, generous spirit, and deep love of life, family, and friends. His warmth, laughter, and adventurous heart will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
