Stephen Carl Wood, Sr.

Stephen Carl Wood Sr., 82, of Camden Ct., Wakefield, formerly of North Kingstown, died Wednesday December 14, 2011. He was the husband of Joan (Griswold) Wood for fifty nine years. Born in Bar Harbor, Maine, he was the son of the late Howard and Gertrude (Gilley) Wood. Mr. Wood was a U.S. Navy Aviator Veteran for twenty two years. Commander Wood graduated from the Maine Maritime Academy in June 1951. He entered active Naval Service in September 1952 and entered flight training at Pensacola, Florida in November 1954. Upon receiving his wings in May 1955 was assigned to VS-31 at Naval Air Station Quonset Point. He was the owner of Stone Cove Marina in Wakefield. Besides his wife he leaves a son Stephen C. Wood Jr. and his wife Peggy; daughters, Betty Ann Criscione and her husband Tom and Linda Larson and her husband Paul; a sister, Diane Wood; grandchildren, Seth, Megan, Tim, Steven, Lisa, and Molly and great granddaughter, Rhea. He was brother of the late Barry Wood. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 AM in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South County Hospital.
