Stephen G. Tennien, 68, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and formerly of Wakefield RI died peacefully on March 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Mae Henneberry and stepson of John Henneberry, and son of the late Edward Tennien. Born in Windsor, Vermont, he grew up in Wakefield where he served as an acolyte at the Church of the Ascension. He graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1966 and URI in 1970, where he was a member of ROTC. He served in the Army for two years during the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of Phil’s Restaurant in Wakefield for several years. Steve was well known for his grapenut pudding and the Twos—2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, 2 slices of toast, and 2 cups of coffee. He had one of the best arms in restaurant business, throwing eggshells at some of his best customers. He also leaves his beloved sisters Susan DeVoe and Jane Chadwick and her husband Michael, his beloved brother Brian Tennien and wife Karen, as well as several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations to Hope, Hospice, and Palliative Care of Rhode Island, 143 Main St. Wakefield RI 02879 or the Church of the Ascension, 370 Main St. Wakefield RI 02879 would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Ascension 370 Main St., Wakefield on March 19 at 2 p.m. Burial at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery will be private.
