Stephen A. Desposito

STEPHEN A. DESPOSITO, 57, of Linden Dr., Kingston and Naples, FL, died Friday. He was the husband of Joyce (Adams) Desposito. They recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of Roslyn Desposito of New Hyde Park, NY and the late Stephen A. Desposito. Mr. Desposito was a 1973 graduate of U.R.I. with a BA in science and received his MA in education from Rhode Island College. He was a Teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal at South Kingstown Junior High School where he worked from 1973 to 1997. He was the Principal of The Block Island School from 1997 to 1998 and Principal of Portsmouth Middle School from 1998 to 2006. After retirement he continued to teach in the Education Department at U.R.I. and Salve Regina University. He was a member of RIASSP. As a member of Christ the King Church, he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Religious Education Teacher. Steve enjoyed golf, the beach, 5k road races, reading, travel, coaching soccer, and was a Master Gardner. Besides his wife and mother he is survived by two daughters, Jennifer L. Bartley of Pembroke, VA and Lisa M. Phaneuf of Newport, RI; grandchildren Hannah E. and Elyn R. Bartley and his brother Michael E. Desposito of Raleigh, NC. Steve was loved by all. His life and teachings had a profound impact on so many. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 20th at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd., Kingston. Burial will be private. The Stephen A. Desposito Memorial Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers has been established. In lieu of flowers, please make donations payable to “URI Foundation/Stephen A.
