Stella Burns

January 29, 1931 — August 13, 2022

Stella E. Burns, passed into eternity on August 13, 2022, at the age of 91. She was a graduate of South Kingstown High School and Providence Bible College, majoring in English and music. Stella was married to Francis “Scottie” Burns for 58 years until his death in 2010. Stella is survived by four children, Lawrence Burns Sr., Killeen, Tx; Sharlene Burns Allen, Charlestown, RI; Fred Burns, Charlestown, RI; Francis “Frank” Burns Jr., Ledyard, Ct. She is predeceased by one son Mark Burns of Ct. Stella and Scottie were blessed with 15 grandchildren and 23 great grand children. Stella’s first employment was at URI as a secretary. She and Scottie’s first business endeavor together was a printing business “Kingston Press”. They then established “The South County Spectator”, a very successful shopper’s guide that they sold after publishing for 25 years. Stella retired and in retirement was still very hands-on in business. She helped her daughter Sharlene establish Burns & Allen Typedesign, a design/printing/advertising business that is still running strong. She also assisted her son Mark in establishing “ABC Printing” that was also very successful. Stella and Scottie enjoyed their antique car clubs and restored several automobiles over the years. Often displaying them in local parades, car clubs and on their front lawn in West Kingston. Stella was a published author, “The Lonesome Whistle’s Call” was her most successful writing. A true story of her husband Scottie’s adventures as a teenager, riding the rails and living homeless. Stella enjoyed writing children’s stories and some of her grandchildren have wonderful memories of her being the “special visitor” to their classrooms. Her passions included foremost her love of God and family and serving in her church. She served as the church pianist, women’s Sunday School teacher, led a home-based Bible study weekly and a women’s monthly fun get-together. Her devotion to the Lord was evident in her daily walk and assistance and love towards others. Stella is remembered for her joyful spirit. Always positive, forgiving and quick to lend a helping hand. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 17 at 10 am in Wood River Church, Rt. 138, Richmond. Burial to follow at New Fernwood Cemetery.
