Stearns E. Briggs IV, 60, of West Kingston, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, at South County Hospital. Born in South Kingstown, a son of Janice (Nyman) Briggs of West Kingston and the late Stearns E. Briggs III. Mr. Briggs was a heavy equipment operator for many years and was a life member of the West Kingston Fire Department. He loved gardening and spending time with his family. Besides his mother, he is survived by his sons, Daniel D. Briggs and his wife Sara of Wakefield and Stearns E. Briggs V and his wife Jenna of North Kingstown; three grandchildren, Gabrielle, Daniel and Stearns Briggs VI; two brothers, Andrew Briggs of West Kingston and Timothy Briggs of Exeter, a sister, Cynthia Pinkerton of West Kingston and his longtime girlfriend, Betty Taylor of West Kingston. Visiting hours will be Monday, June 26, 2017, from 5-7 pm followed by a funeral service at 7pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Ave., Wakefield, RI 02879.
