Stearns E. Gene Briggs, Iii

Stearns E. “Gene” Briggs III, 74, of Waites Corner Rd., West Kingston, went to be with the Lord Saturday at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Janice L. (Nyman) Briggs. Born in Richmond, he was the son of the late Stearns E. Briggs Jr. and Hortense P. (Mallory) Briggs. Mr. Briggs was the owner of Kenyon Restaurants Inc and Jan and Gene Caterers for 11 years. He also worked for Arnold Lumber for a number of years and Fiore Industries for 35 years. He was a Charter Member of Kingston Fire Department and West Kingston Fire Department. He enjoyed going to the stock car races, camping and golfing. He was also a member of Quahog Lodge No 725, Vasa Order of America. Besides his wife he leaves, sons, Stearns E. Briggs IV and Andrew A. Briggs both of West Kingston and Timothy A. Briggs of Exeter; a daughter, Cynthia M. Pinkerton of West Kingston; brothers, Richard E. Briggs of Peace Dale and Donald M. Briggs of North Kingstown; a sister, Beverly Ennis of Perryville, eight grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. He was brother of the late Everett E. Briggs, Mildred Foley and Harriett Stuard and grandfather of the late Robbie Briggs. The funeral will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am in the West Kingston Baptist Church, 263 Waites Corner Rd., West Kingston. Burial will be in new Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting Hours Tuesday 4-7 pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
