Sophie Carpenter

Sophie Carpenter (Mongillo), 72, of Wakefield passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2016. Born in Southington, CT, a daughter of the late Pasquale and Mary (Pelcher) Mongillo. Sophie was a cook at the University of Rhode Island for many years before retiring; was an avid bingo player; enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and spending time on the farm. She is survived by her sons, John P. Carpenter of Charlestown, Bruce and David W. Carpenter of Wakefield; nine grandchildren, Kristle, Alex, Cody, Justin, Isadora, Aiden, Brittany, Jessie Carpenter and Patrick Hawkins; three brothers, Pat Mongillo of Narragansett, Mickey Mongillo and John Mongillo of CT and eight great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Benjamin Carpenter, III. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 10 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, High St., Wakefield. Burial will follow in the Carpenter Family Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, December 19, 2016, 4-6 pm in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield.
