Simon G. Harootian, Jr.

Simon G. Harootian Jr., 79, of South Kingstown, RI., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 9th. George was born July 21, 1945 in Worcester, MA. He is predeceased by his parents Dr. Simon G. Harootian Sr. and Margaret (Ansbigian) Harootian, and sister, Carol Harootian. He was the beloved husband to Roberta J. (Benoit) Harootian for whom he shared 57 loving years. George also leaves behind his three children, Simon “Gidge” G. Harootian III and his wife Sue, Danielle J. Chevalier and her husband Andy, and Mark A. Harootian and his wife Sarah DeRosa. George was also the proud grandfather to his grandchildren Gavin, Zachary, Trevor, Amelia, and Dylan.

George graduated from Classical High School in Worcester and continued his education at Clark University where he earned his bachelor of Science in Mechanical engineering. For over forty years, he worked as a mechanical engineer developing a variety of medical imagery devices such as momography machines and portable CT scanners. His expertise was not limited to the medical field. George was also involved in developing night vision devices, catalytic converters and held multiple patents.

George’s true passions were building model planes, working on his personal cars, boats, and motorcycles. In addition to building and driving motorcycles and antique cars, George was often found tinkering in his workshop and garage, which brought him joy and relaxation. George's most treasured pastime was spending time with his family and supporting them in all their different endeavors.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, January 15th from 4-6 pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, 02879. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 16th at 10:30 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home with burial to follow in St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made at the Armenian Church of our Savior in Worcester MA or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
