Obituary

Shirley J. (Perreault) Tucker died February 16, 2026 just one month short of her 97th birthday. She was the daughter of L. Edward and Iva (Budlong) Perreault. She was also the sister of the late Roland Perreault, Sr.

Shirley married the love of her life, Hollis H. Tucker in 1948 and together raised four daughters (the Tucker girls), Kathleen Brennan (dec) (James dec), Deborah Cotoia (Mike), Gail Richmond (Roy), and Denise Tucker (Richard Arnold). Shirley was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Brennan by only four days - Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Shirley and Hollis spent their married life on their farm in Tuckertown with their girls growing potatoes, raising beef cattle and of course, Hollis' beloved Draft Horses. In later years, they switched to turf production in which Shirley was still involved for several more years after losing Hollis.

Shirley was a South Kingstown High School graduate. She was a Brownie Scout Leader in the late 50's and early 60's and as the girls grew, she became a Girl Scout Leader. She joined Richmond Grange in 1946 and although not active, she was still a member. However, Shirley was very proud to support the Perryville Grange for several decades by making multiple varieties of fudge, with the help of family and friends, for The Candy Booth of the Washington County Fair.

Shirley may not have been the best gardener, but she loved refinishing furniture, braiding rugs and quilting. She was a master with her sewing machine and her needle and thread. When "her girls" were young, she made the majority of their clothes and their dolls too!

She was one of the original organizers of the "Tuesday Group" formed in 1962, with the group still meeting though on a smaller scale. This was a large factor in her life as these ladies got together every Tuesday not only to braid rugs, needlepoint and crochet but also to socialize. In later years, quilting became their obsession.

If Shirley was not out traveling the country and the world with family or friends, she was always willing to share her skills with others and donate her fabrics and materials with those in need. The group made several quilts and blankets that were donated to hospitals, veterans homes and the needy.

Shirley and her infectious smile will be missed by all especially her daughters and her seven grandchildren: Laurie Brennan-Cribb, Kelley Brennan, Jennifer Cotoia-Morgan, Michael Cotoia, Trevor Richmond, Brett Richmond and Bryon Tucker. Shirley also leaves 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandsons.

We wish to thank the wonderful caregivers who helped Shirley stay in her home as long as possible. Most recently Shirley was a resident at the South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and we wish to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Pond View StaX who always treated Shirley with kindness, caring and respect. Our appreciation also to the wonderful caregivers of Home Health & Hospice Care for their kindness and expertise.

Visiting hours for Shirley will be held on Tuesday, February 24th from 10-12 pm with a service immediatley following at 12 pm in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, RI. Burial will be private.

In honor of Shirley's memory, we hope you smile more often and spread love, joy and kindness.
