Shirley Jean Southland

Shirley Jean Southland, 84, of Wakefield, passed away on April 19, 2021 with her family by her side. She relocated to Frederick, Maryland in 2020 to be cared for by family. Born in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late George and Marie (Cox) Goodwin. Due to a family tragedy she was adopted at the age of 3. Shirley worked as an attendant for the Ladd School for many years as she had a passion for caring for others. She loved to volunteer at the Senior Center in her spare time and was frequently the last person out the door at night. She had a soft spot for all animals and her last memorable days were spent with her cat “Baby” on her lap. Shirley’s smile and laughter will be missed. She is survived by her twin step-daughters, Holly Green and Cindy Southland, step-son, David Southland, step-grandchildren, Sheena Southland, Lynly Lovelace, Ryan and Emma Banashak. She is pre-deceased by step-grandson Brandon Southland. The family would like to thank Frederick Health Hospice for their care and support.
