Shirley B. DeBoer, 78, of Wakefield, died Thursday, after a brief illness. Born in South Kingstown, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Grant) Bonner. Mrs. DeBoer was a secretary for the Women’s Resource Center of South County and South County Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, she worked for Krista Garrett at Liberty Tax. She was an avid knitter and has knitted over seven hundred hats for new born babies. She was a sports fan enjoying tennis, UCONN Women’s Basketball, and was a diehard Boston Red Sox and Celtics fan. Mrs. DeBoer was a breast cancer survivor for over twenty-two years. She is survived by a son and daughter in law Alan “John” and Susan DeBoer, Jr. of Hope Valley. She was the sister of the late Margaret Rostrup, Lee Bonner and Bob Bonner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday July 27, 2013 at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879 or the Women’s Resource Center of South County, 61 Main Street, Wakefield, RI 02879.
