Sara Brady Whitright, 75 of Hopkinton, Former Narragansett Town Councilwoman and First Female Narragansett GOP Chairperson. Sara went to be with her Lord on December 15, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William F. Whitright, Sr. and mother of Shannon Noel Whitright, Tara Noel Whitright Ray and William F. Whitright, Jr.; nanna to Heather Marie Whitright, Hannah Rose Smith, Hailey Ann Smith and Derrick Slade Ray, Jr. She was the daughter of the late John V. Brady and the late Adral V. Brady and sister of the late John Lawrence Brady all of Hudson Falls, NY. She was a 1959 graduate of Hudson Falls High School. She was a graduate of Cape Cod Hospital School of Nursing, Hyannis, MA and attended Rhode Island College. She was the founder and president of Whitco Testing, Inc. She became one of the first woman to become certified in the field of underground storage tank testing. She was involved in many community activities throughout her life. She was a member of the Narragansett Town Council for 2 terms. She was the first woman elected to become Chair of the GOP or any political party in Narragansett. She was also a delegate for many years to the RI GOP State Central Committee. In 1980 she was an intern from the Political Science Department of RIC to Sen. Chaffee’s office in Washington, DC. She was a candidate for the Rhode Island Senate Dist 24 in 1998. She was a charter member of the RI Women’s Business Council, member of the Rhode Island Commission on Women. Before going into the business world, she spent 26 years in the nursing field. She was a member of the Narragansett Land Conservancy Trust, Recreation Advisory Board, Washington County Regional Planning Forum, and The Towers Committee. She also served as Campfire leader and Cub scout leader as her children grew up. She was Parent Council President at The Prout School 1991-1992, Board of Directors Prout/MSGR Clarke School 1991-1992. She and her husband Bill were co founders of Fishers of Men Ministries. She enjoyed ministry, her children, her grandchildren, traveling and doing family research. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 10:00 am in St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, 63 Canonchet Rd, Hopkinton, RI 02833 with a burial to follow in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church.
