Samuel J. Williams

Samuel J. Williams, 83, of Narragansett, passed away Friday. He was the beloved husband of Birdie (Scott) Williams for 61 years. Born in Kingstree, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Isaac and Regina (Griffen) Williams. Mr. Williams was employed for the State of Rhode Island, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed woodworking and antiquing. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Wilbur L. Williams of Kingstree, SC, Rufus J. Williams and Sammie D. Williams, both of Wakefield; two daughters, Patricia A. Johnson of Peace Dale and Deidre C. Spencer of Austin, TX; twelve grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mattie Flegler, Ressie Tisdale, and Estelle Scott, all of Kingstree, SC, Betty Conyers of Brooklyn, NY and Geannie Niles of Charlestown, SC. He was the brother of the late Isaac Williams. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Thursday in the Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5-7 pm.
