Ryan Poppe Wilhere

January 29, 1990 — March 5, 2012

Ryan Poppe Wilhere, 22, of Wakefield, died Monday. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of Susan E. Poppe of Westerly and Roger J. Wilhere of Coventry. Ryan grew up in the Green Hill section of South Kingstown, and was a graduate of South Kingstown High School in 2008. Ryan was the owner of Ryan Poppe Landscaping and served as a volunteer fireman with the Matunuck Fire Department. He will be remembered as being a loyal friend and took great pride and enjoyment helping his brother Evan with his construction business, as well as helping his friends. He loved the ocean, surfing, snowboarding, playing his guitar, and refurbishing old trucks with his friends. Ryan spent much of his spare time in Green Hill and at the Green Hill Pond. Besides his parents he is survived by, two brothers Evan W. Poppe of Green Hill and Alec P. Wilhere stationed in Hawaii; and his maternal grandfather, Bernard H. Poppe of Green Hill; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the grandson of the late Carolyn Poppe, and Helen and Harry Wilhere. Visiting hours will be at the Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, Friday, 5-7 PM, followed by a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union Fire District, 131 Asa Pond Road, South Kingstown, RI 02879.
