Ruth D. Toupin, 95, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2019. She was the wife of the late Dr. Eugene Toupin, DMD. Born in North Providence, she was the daughter of the late Capt. William Degnan and Ruth (Nickerson) Degnan. Mrs. Toupin graduated from the Cambridge City School of Nursing in 1945 where she worked as a registered nurse for Massachusetts General Hospital. "Miss Ruth" loved her time working in the childrens room in the Narragansett Pier Library. While working there she completed a published history of the library. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Narragansett Chapter and served as their historian. She was a member of St. Peters By the Sea Episcopal Church, Narragansett where she sang in the choir for many years. She was also involved with the American Red Cross. She is survived by her daughter in law Alison Bateson-Toupin; grandchildren Caitlin Bateson Toupin (Amanda), Brendan Toupin (Caitlin), Patrick Toupin; great-grandchildren Paxton, Brody, Emma, Callie; siblings Michael Degnan, William Degnan, Priscilla Fritz, Betty Gaouette, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons Richard and Matthew Toupin and siblings Barbara Labine and John Degnan. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 10am in St. Peters By the Sea Episcopal Church, 72 Central St, Narragansett. Burial will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Peters By the Sea Episcopal Church
