Ruth W. Sweet (DOANE) 80 of South Kingstown died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at home.
She was the wife of Charles A. Sweet and daughter of the late Warren B. and Dorothea M. (Mullaney) Doane. She was born in Providence on February 6, 1935, and moved with her family to Narragansett during 1940 and South Kingstown in 1956. Ruth and her husband celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on April 2nd.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Debra E. (Sweet) Perretta and husband David E., Gregory Sweet and wife Linda, Lisa Sweet and mate Vicki Pillsbury, David Sweet, and Kateri (Sweet) Wheeler; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
After having five children, Ruth returned to college and received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Mount St. Joseph College in June of 1976. She taught severely intellectually challenged children in the South Kingstown School until retiring in 1988. She also graduated from the Master Gardening program at U.R.I. and was known for her flower gardens around her home in Wakefield. She enjoyed cooking, reading, rug hooking, gardening, traveling and being with her family. Most precious to Ruth, in addition to her faith in God and her religion were her family and friends. Ruth always gave more than she took...usually much more.
