Ruth L. Goldsmith, 90, of Wakefield, passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Goldsmith. Born in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Eleanor (Hodson) Muller. Before retiring to RI in 1991, Ruth and her family lived in Vernon, CT for nearly 40 years. After raising her children, Ruth was employed as a travel agent for several years, and then was hired as the secretary to the general manager of The Hartford Whalers, a position she greatly enjoyed, with the added benefit of attending all their home games. In her youth, she was a baseball fan frequenting New York Giants games, and was also a fan of the Red Sox. Ruth was an active member of the Peace Dale Congregational Church, a member of the Womans Fellowship, a former deacon, and loved to attend Bible Study. She enjoyed volunteering with her husband at the Peace Dale House and South County Habitat. Ruth was an avid quilter and reader, and loved the beach. She also enjoyed bird watching and very much enjoyed the company of her two cats. She is survived by her children Calvin Goldsmith and his wife Michelle of Templeton, MA, Ginny DelConte and her husband Tony of New Hartford, CT, Sandra Gabree and her husband David of Willington, CT, and daughter-in-law Renee Senes of Harvard, MA; six grandchildren Alec, Elizabeth, Emily, Grace, Jesse, and Casey and husband Kyle and great-granddaughter Kaylee; step-grandchildren Anthony and Mikayla. Ruth was predeceased by her son Christopher Goldsmith and her sister Marie Luchetta. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:00 am in Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia Street, Wakefield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ruths name may be made to the Peace Dale Congregational Church, 261 Columbia Street, Wakefield, RI, 02879, or South County Habitat for Humanities RI, PO Box 68, Shannock, RI 02875.
