Ruth Carol Giroux

Ruth “Carol” Giroux, 86, of West Kingston, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Susan (Sugell) Stedman. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert C. Giroux and they were married for 55 wonderful years.

Carol graduated from South Kingstown High School in 1954. Her loved ones would describe her as independent, strong-willed, and resilient. She adored animals. In her spare time, she loved sewing, embroidery, and reading. Carol loved the beaches, boating and clamming in Salt Pond, while living 30 years in Narragansett. Her French poodle, Cookie, would find the clam holes at low tide for her to dig up. Carol was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Carol is survived by her children Deborah Prefontaine and her husband Barry, Robert Giroux and his wife Gail, and Nancy Steere and her husband Bradley; her grandchildren Barry Prefontaine Jr., Bethany Eichholz, Gregory Giroux, Kelsey Giroux, Nicole Giroux, Sarah Steere, and Katherine Steere; and her great-grandchildren Olivia and Lucas Eichholz. She was predeceased by her siblings Walter Stedman and Susan Chaffee.
