Rueben D. “Lars” Larson, 90, formerly of Tidal Dr. South Kingstown, died Saturday July 9, 2011. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Loveday) Larson. Born in Eveleth, Minnesota, he graduated from Eveleth Jr. College prior to entering the US Navy as a Naval Aviation Cadet. He received his wings from Corpus Christie, Texas Naval Aviation Training Command and Commissioned as an Ensign. He served in several combat areas during World War II and received the Air Medal with Gold Star and Letter of Commendation from the Secretary of the Navy as well as several other awards. Mr. Larson served for 28 years in the Navy and retired with the rank of Commander. His last tour of duty was as Executive Officer of the US Naval Station, Argentia, Newfoundland. After retiring he served as Purchasing Agent for AMICA Mutual Insurance Company. He acted as Secretary of the Snug Harbor Volunteer Fire Dept. of Wakefield for a short time and a volunteer at the South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI Surviving are four sons David, Jon, Peter and Paul Larson; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be private Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Avenue, Wakefield, RI 02879.
